Title: Anyone recognize this Cat? Black glass with silver foil
Post by: socsthecat on July 17, 2007, 12:21:03 PM
Hi.  I recently purchased this glass cat at an estate auction.  It is signed on the bottom but I can't make out what it says.  It is mostly black with silvery flecks inside.  There seems to be 3 different patterns to the silver fleck.  Anyone know who might have made this?

Photos are at:

Thanks so much for any help.

Hi and welcome to the board. Can you get a closeup of the signature in case someone may be able to recognise it? If your camera has a macro setting (the little flower icon usually) try that, or sometimes standing the piece on a scanner if you have one and scanning it will pick up the mark instead.

The decoration is silver foil, at least one overlap is visible and the variations are just due to the shaping process. I would think it is most likely of American origin.

I would also appreciate large copies of the images for the Glass Zoo, might get it ID'd positively one day.

Hi everyone - thanks for your thoughts so far!

I added a scan of the signature.  It seems to be written in 3 lines.  I really can't read the first line at all.  I'm pretty sure the second line starts off with "Seg" or "Sag" followed by 3 or 4 more letters.  The 3rd line looks like it says "Curious" which I'm guessing is the title of the piece.  The scan shows the signature better than any pictures I took, but it's still not very clear  :(

Title: It's Probably Seguso Murano
Post by: socsthecat on July 18, 2007, 03:46:43 PM
I'm now pretty sure it's Murano designed by Seguso.  Someone over on a Murano forum just referred me to this link.  Mine is exactly the same shape and the signatures match.

Thanks everyone!

Can anyone comment on the use of silver foil in this threads examples - was this the same series as the Trocadero example?

Lots of Murano makers used silver foil but it is specifically the Seguso Phantasy range I was wondering about.
