Title: Something of interest...Murano vase auction
Post by: selina on July 22, 2007, 07:37:48 AM
Hi all,

We have a program over here called Collectors..which I missed for the first time this season. And wouldnt you know it, they auctioned off a Murano vase.

Im not sure if I can put the website link on here. There is a small pic of the vase on there and it sold for $750Au.

I don't see why you shouldn't put the website link here Trudy.  It sounds similar to our 'Flog it' programme..

Small pic as I said but you never know, it may help someone identify there own vase somewhere along the way.

Um..I had a quick Google of L.Onesto and that Collectors Website vase doesn't seem like that much of a bargain to me unless it's because of the extra sommerso layers...  :-\

Did you find his website, Max?

The thing that surprises me is that the supposed expert in Murano glass gave a guestimate of $AUD4500 (about 1,200 pounds or so). Maybe he knows definitively that it's an older, classic example of Onesto's designs or ... um ...  I was going to suggest that perhaps it might have been an Australian thing, given that Aussies seem to go ape over anything Murano. But, here's a comparable piece being sold in NZ. http://www.modernistglass.com/glasspieces/view/2327 which is still nowhere near Adrian's estimate.

Will be interesting to see what the experts say!
