Picked up these two pieces, the vase is very pale Marigold with an impressed mark on the base RECD No 704493 and the little
pin dish, two of the petal's curl over inwards? i have been on Glen and David Dotty site's but cant find it, but i think they are modern.

The vase looks like European carnival to me and the number dates the design on the vase to first half 1924. GLEN...

Not much help but here are some variations of it.

Oh, that helped...

Now that is interesting because Sue's doesn't appear to have any of the fine cutting!
-
Now that is odd?? why would mine not have any of the decoration? a blank maybe?
-
Except I doubt that the cutting is actually cutting, more like pressed

Yes, it is Fine Cut Rings Variant - and yes, there are two variations on that pattern. There is no information on my website about it - but there is a huge amount of original research on the pattern where it is illustrated / written about at length in our NetworK journals, number 4 and 5, and also on page 152 of my "Century of Carnival Glass".
The design number was registered by Guggenheim in London (a wholesaler / agent) in 1924 , but we have not found any records to trace it further back than that. Every piece I have seen has the RD number. The maker is not confirmed (despite the RD) but Leerdam of Holland is in the frame (but the style could be Rindskopf too). It is European for sure.
In "A Century of Carnival Glass" we show a 1928 ad from the Pottery Gazette which shows the exact celery you have, Sue (without the "fine cut" detail) - this is the Fine Cut Rings Variant. The RD is also shown on the ad. In our NetworK journals we show a 1925 ad which depicts an item with the "fine cut" detail. That one is Fine Cut Rings. And for the record, the "fine cut" effect is of course, simply the effect of the pressed pattern, as Christine suggested.

Thank you Glen for a detailed explanation :)
BTW did you see the post in the cafe?
-
Hi Sue - no, I hadn't spotted the Cafe post - but I've read it now and I'll respond there. Thanks for the alert!

A picture of one I bought yesterday for reference.

Excellent photos, Roy. The moulded number is wonderfully clear. Thank you for sharing them with us.
If I should ever need to use a photo of this item for educational purposes, would you allow me to use your pictures; with all appropriate acknowledgements / courtesies / your name etc., naturally?
