Title: Muurla / Kauko Makinen
Post by: Pinkspoons on July 26, 2007, 02:42:41 PM
Recently acquired a wall-mounted candleholder, labeled for Muurla and signed "Kauko Makinen" - but I've Googled the name and all I can come up with an apparently ground-breaking Finnish dentist/biochemist. Any clues?

Having a little trouble getting a photograph set up, as it's an awkward shape/design to capture - so bear with me on that front.

Thanks in advance.

Nic, have you had a look on designlasi.com?  They've got an English site button now too :-)

Just had a look, and they don't seem to cover Muurla. No mention of the designer or the pattern on Muurla's current site either.

It may be worth contacting them directly once I get an image sorted, though. :)

It seems the designers (2000-2004) are Ristomatti Ratia, Johanna Oras and Tommy Tabermann.
Kauko Makinen is not mentioned in the "Finnish Glass Lives" book which has all the designers & glassmakers.
maybe their website will reveal more: www.muurlanlasi.com
good luck

The Muurla website was the first place I looked, but no luck there, unfortunately.  :-\
