Title: Anyone recognise this label please?
Post by: bubbles on July 28, 2007, 03:28:02 PM
A recent enquiry to my website was asking about these bubble bud vases, although the vases look very like Holmegaard, I hadn't seen this label before.  Any help very much appreciated, thank you.

Pat, it's not one which Nic lists either: http://www.holmegaardresource.com/labels_labels.html - but he may be able to throw more light on it when he appears.

Sorry Anne,
I should have said I had already looked at Nic's site and couldn't find it there, I also mailed him and he feels sure it is not Holmegaard, but has a vague recollection that it could be German, he suggested I post it here in case anyone remembered it.

Pamela, thanks, the  seller also states the label is a gold colour

I'm currently checking out Hadeland (clutching at straws really)

Hi Pat, these are a very generic item.
Once again, I think you may be looking at an importers label, and probably applied to Harrachov production from the 1950s or 1960s.
Regards,
Marcus

Hi Marcus, thanks for you thoughts, I agree these are usually (though not always) importers labels, however I would be very surprised if it turns out to be Harrachov, the bubbles are too big and arranged very differently, Oh how I wish I had remembered to bid on them!!!!!  Handling them and seeing the detail in real life makes such a difference.  I really appreciate all your input, thankyou.  Unfortunately I have been too poorly for some time to really do much work on these, but I alway try to answer any queries when people contact me through the site.

Could they be Japanese? Hoya for example?  Somewhere I have two vases with bubble bases that have a Japanese label.(Just spent an hour looking for them. Found lots of other things I was looking for but not these.) Amongst my collection I have one with a Chinese label and one with a Portugese label. They seem to have been made in many countries. Anyone interested in seeing the Chinese and Portugese and their labels? And maybe others could add some more.

Japanese? Yes possibly, the bubble formation is very similar to the ones I have with japanese labels, however all mine have clear bases and coloured stems, with a wide flare at the top.  These ones have narrow stems and from what I can tell from the rather poor picture they are the same colour as the bases, which points to Scandinavian origin.  I thought the crown was quite similar to the ones on the Holmegaard labels. I guess we will never know unless I can see it in the flesh so to speak.
I would love to see any bud vases with labels, if you don't mind sharing them, all the information I can collect on the way will help me if only to say what they are not.
Well it keeps me out of mischief  ;) ;D

Wow Pat, I just found your website. As Ivo said in an earlier thread, everything you ever wanted to know about these bud vases - http://www.glassbudvases.co.uk/

You already have my Chinese label on your site. I'll have a look if my Portuguese one is any different from yours, or if I have any others you might like.

I agree with you about the Japanese versions - mine had bright yellow tops which flared out. Still can't find them.

Hi again Pat,
I have put some pictures here that you may wish to use on your website. I don't think these exact same labels are there already.

Hope that is helpful.

Angela, thank you so much for those pictures, I promise I will make good use of them, I will attribute them to you of course unless you prefer me not to.  All I have to do now is to get well again and quick!
Thank again
