Does anyone know anything about this lovely piece?
Its a ruby red bowl, with gold speckles in the clear parts of the glass and bears an unpolished pontil on the bottom...
Pictures hyperlinked here, can be maximised full screen;

I would say yes probably, vintage Murano

Molded bowl section points to Empoli, recent, in the Venetian style. JMHO Ed.

The unpolished pontil on the bottom leads me to think it's not that recent...
If it was a more modern piece wouldnt they have polished it off?
But then again saying that, ive seen some habitat modern drinking glasses that also have an unpolished potil on the bottom, echoing the older style of handblown glass.
Everyone beware, dont pick up these drinking glasses if you see them on sale with a distinctive blue rim and bubbles in the clear section, they are modern habitat (real tat!) not nice old bits of art glass! :P
And on that note has anyone seen the replica Baxters Bricklayers on sale on eBay, modern replicas of a baxters bricklayer, truelly horrifying, how does a collector now know if his expensive purchase is the real thing or a nasty modern fake!
I wont be buying any of those in the future.

Grinding/polishing of pontil scars is not a dating technique - more to do with costs and equally appropriate on 18th century as 20th century. If anything, it is become more common today in the bid to remain competitive on price.
Murano tend to finish quite thoroughly
