Hi, I was recommended to ask for help here to identify a pair of glass vases I know nothing about. I've never seen anything quite like the and am not sure I'd want to again.

They're about seven inches high, the green part is very fine glass although the base clear glass is more substantial, there's a bit more information at

Many thanks

Glad you decided to take the plunge Chris. :) I'm sure someone here will be able to tell you something about them... ;)
-
Lynne reckoned "probably Bohemian or Czech, possibly English, but VERY Victorian" and that's about all I know (except that they're a very acquired taste!)
-
What size are they Chris?
-
7" tall
3" across the base
2.5" across the widest part of the green glass

I'm with Lynne. They are just grotesque enough to be Victorian >:D

I think Lynne is spot on. England is the less likely contender.

Many thanks you guys. These really are horribly but I'm kinda fond of them. I still don't know what was in the head of the guy that made em, they have to have been on drugs or something :o

That's 19th century design for you. I also think it was a period of experimenting with shapes and colours in glass and when form began to come before function for the middle classes. It was all hand-made so could be as wacky as the maker liked in a way that perhaps ceramics couldn't at the time. Look at some of the Scandinavian 20th century glass, in reality it's equally as wacky
-
I do like the unusual rather than the mundane, if it's not wacky (and a bit ugly) I'm not interested :D
-
I must have weird aesthetics, because I quite like them!
-
Me too
-
PMSL, you lot are nuts
-
Oh yeah they're all nuts but ever so nice with it :P.
Chris, if you ask nicely maybe someone on here will show you their 'triffid' vases - something tells me you might like them too ;D
-
Triffid vase???? Oh come on... this I have to see :D

Here you go - Leni's collection http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/thumbnails.php?album=72 (click the thumbnails to see larger pics.)
-
Hi Chris, I do like them too :D
www.pressglas-pavillon.de - go to VASES - scroll down to mouthblown  they are a little like this feature at the left ;D
-
Totally totally absurd! :P
-
But it'd be so boring if we all liked the same style - not to mention that it would make buying things a bit of a hassle with us all bidding against each other. 8)

I've been having a great week for buying, sadly no glass, but I've got a ton of pottery on the way! Plus I'm so happy, a piece from America arrived today and the seller DOES know how to pack to get it here safely. It's really....errrrr "special" piece! :-D
