Hello again,

I've gotten so inspired by all the postings on this site, that I left my familiar pottery binging to add this piece to my collection. A little education could get me in trouble, but I think think this was worth picking up. I know nothing about glass except that I like it and hope someone could help with some info. Sorry for the American dimensions & weight. It's hard to teach an old dog new tricks and I can't find my converter.

This lovely piece is about 7 inches across and 2 1/2 inches tall, weighs in at a whopping 2 1/2 pounds. There are bubbles in the white "dots" and under magnification there are the tiniest little fractures around the white. The dots are closer to the inside of the dish/bowl. I've nicknamed it (now I know I'm addicted, when I start naming pieces) DOTTED SWISS, because it reminds me of the fabric (I'm a costume designer and just can't help myself).

Okay, point number one -- it's lovely!!!   

I believe, based on the shape and the under lips (for lack of a better description) that it is Murano. But I am a newbie, so somebody might come and change my mind  ;)

I think Carolyn's right. What an interesting technique! It looks like frit (glass powder) around air bubbles, but I could be wrong. Dotted Swiss out of Murano sounds good to me, but we need a Murano expert to confirm

  :) Thanks for the response. It really looks great on my sideboard and there it will stay. I think those glass artists are simply amazing. Makes my pottery look somehow mundane in comparison. Hopefully someone will make an ID. I really like to know what my pieces are.

I think it is by Formia, Murano - but no guarantee that they actually made it themselves..
