Post by: Tony H on June 17, 2005, 07:25:16 AM
Hi Glen and Bernard
Today my wife and I had a look in at a Antiques and Colletables shop in Te Awamutu, where we found a large clear glass vase on there legs, 12+ inches high and 6 inches in diameter, very Art Deco, it has the Reg No 798822 late 1934, It is not listed at Great Glass, can either of you help, a wild guess is Julies Lang or IBC. Here is a link to photo.

Tony, what an interesting vase! Thanks for sharing it.

The RD number was registered by Hoskins Rose and Co. 18 Dec., 1934. I do not know them, or anything about them. I assume they were agents - perhaps someone else can help out here.

The style of the vase reminds me of similar items by Rindskopf, but I haven't seen the identical item anywhere.

Hi Glen thank you for your help, I am sure I have seen other pieces with similar legs/feet.
I do not know of Hoskins Rose, will be interesting to find out who they are.

Actually Tony, a quick "google" just threw up a glass paperweight that seems to be from Hoskins Rose. The seller says they were a London company and speculates a date from the 1950s. I've got one of those glass paperweights somewhere - must try and find it.

Oooh, I've added this:

Check this url for the paperweight (Mine is certainly not like this).

It's an actual photo of the Hoskins Rose Co., 5 St Andrew St., Holborn Cross, London, where they had Offices and Showrooms for Glassware. They were undoubtedly agents, wholesalers etc. Possibly handled the usual suspects (Czech, German etc).

Marcus has been investigating them.

In addition to others, Czech I think, they were also agents for Matthew Turnbull Ltd, Sunderland. Who made pressed glass tableware.

Hi, I having just be reading the information on the large vase found by the man in New Zealand.  My mother also has the same vase.  It was inhertited from an Autie who lived in North London.  Your information was the first we have found on this vase.  Have you any idea what it is worth?

Tony, I have a pair of Hoskins Rose candlesticks, the photo really does not do them justice, they are beautifully made, but I don't know by whom.

If it has the same registered number 798822 on it, then yes. Hoskins Rose was an importer though, not a manufacturer, so we're no further forward finding out who made the vase yet.
