Title: Does anyone recognize this vase?
Post by: TxSilver on August 24, 2007, 02:58:27 AM
I have a vase that I have been trying to identify for over a year. It is about 7" (18 cm) tall. It is clear glass densely loaded with red pigment granules, so that the vase looks red. The granules are fine like powder -- I don't know what one would call the technique. The pigment is not uniform, but is heavier in bands. The pontil is like a thumbprint. The vase is not noticeably cased, but is heavy. I posted a couple of pictures of it. I don't know if the vase is from Murano, the UK, or some other country. I hope someone will recognize the work.

Thanks for any help,

I thought the vase might be Murano, but it is okay to move it to the general board.

If it's ok, I'd like to leave this one here for a moment.  It seems to be hand blown, judging from the pontil mark, so I think that could preclude some more general makers.  It could be Italian, I'm not sure. If it was UK studio glass, I'd expect it to be signed.  My thoughts would be leave as is for a few days, and then move it - there's no harm in waiting for a little while.  :)

Now moved to the general Glass board.   :)

I looked at the vase again tonight and found that I was wrong. The vase is cased in clear glass that seems heaviest at the bottom. The vase reminds me of a couple of things I have seen -- Seguso and Nazeing. It isn't marked, so it is probably not Nazeing. Maybe Seguso?
