I came across these last week at my local auction. The red on is 10" tall, the green is 11.5". They were both quite dirty, so looked old to me, but now that they are clean they could be new. The base of both is quite rough. Can anyone give me any clues about maker, country, dates, whatever? And is irridescent the right word to use? Thanks, Iain

Lovely American carnival glass. I think they're Fenton Diamond and Rib. If they're marked on the base they're 1970s reissues, if not classic carnival. Glen will be able to give a better time frame, but c 1920. See David Doty's excellent site http://www.ddoty.com/diamondrib.html (http://www.ddoty.com/diamondrib.html)

These are indeed Fenton, and we have inventory records or catalogs pages dating from about 1910-11 for them. Those made after 1970 will have the word Fenton in script type within an oval on the outside bottom.

Thanks for that info. They have no marks on the base, just a very thin raised edge. So that would date them to sometime between 1911 and 1970? Or can they be pinned down more precisely than that? I should maybe point out that they'll end up on Ebay at some point, so my interest is as much in being able to give potential buyers good info as for my own interest.

Classic carnival wasn't made for that long, maybe 15 years, Glen or James will know. The design was reissued in the 1970s after not being produced in carnival for 50 years.

Hi, this webpage may be of some help:

Although it isn't pattern specific it gives an idea of the dates for each factory making Carnival.
