Title: Looks Scandi, but is it?
Post by: Leni on August 27, 2007, 08:40:39 AM
I just bought this large pressed glass vase - can't quite see if it's two or four part mould.   It looks as if it might be Scandi, but I can't find any mark or label on it.  It's 10 inches high, 7 and 1/2 across the neck, and it weighs a massive 9lbs!

It was very difficult to photgraph and the pictures needed 'tweaking' to show detail, so I hope they are clear enough. I have posted several pics of different sides of the vase in my gallery.
Any help much appreciated.  Thank you.

Hi Leni,
A very famous mould this, originally a vase in the Inwald "Barolac" range, pattern number 11589. "Forest" was produced from the 1930s onward and is now being made by Halama as product number FH4026/27cm. In sodium-potash glass, height should be 270mm. This does unfortunately look like it may be a post-war production.
Regards,
Marcus

Thank you VERY much for that information, Marcus!   :hiclp:

I've re-checked the height and it is indeed nominally 270mm on one side (I'm afraid I still haven't adjusted to metric measurements - old dogs & new tricks, etc.) but I hadn't realised before that the rim is slightly uneven so one side is very slightly lower.

I don't feel too concerned if it's a post-war production.  It's an amazing piece and I'm very pleased to have it.  Can you tell me anything more about it?  I will try Google-ing, anyway.

Thank you very much, again;
Leni  :)
