Title: Unusual Slag? Goblet & small Victorian vase? ID or info please
Post by: selina on August 29, 2007, 12:36:42 PM
Hi,

Ive had this goblet for a while. Ive always been on the lookout for another to make a matching pair but without any idea of maker or style its a big task. I thought it was slag glass, it looks to be handmade and the stem is twisted and applied to the cup. There are bubbles and small flecks of dirt throughout the glass. Stands 12cm and is a pale lime green.

The second one I bought the other day as a last minute buy. Tiny as you can see next to the coke can. The green frills and applied bits are uranium glass. Any age help would be great and would this have been used as a vase? Its so tiny.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

The goblet is not slag glass as it's commonly defined. It might be local studio glass. Or not.  ^-^ Not much help, I know!

For the other piece, you might get more response if you can take more photographs of it and start a new thread for it alone.

Cheers!

Thanks Cathy..I have no idea what to call it..:) The little one I only wondered if its use was as a vase. Im pretty sure its Victorian. I picked it up because of similarities to another piece I have. Just thought it was rather tiny.

Doesnt matter if your not much help :) Because you are!! I know its not slag glass now..lol.

Your tiny glass could be a toothpick holder and is possibly Victorian: uranium glass, over-large base and stem not quite centred.
