Title: Help with ID please - older Pansy paperweight and others

Hi all.  I've been sorting through a nice collection of paperweights that I bought at an auction, and a few of them have me stumped.  I have an older faceted pansy, another faceted one with millefiori and latticino, an iridescent pink "globe" type that I think had a $360 price on it at some point, and a LARGE (over 4" diameter and 3.5" high) weight with 2 small frogs and a large flower.  I've uploaded pictures of all of them to the album below.  Any thoughts on the maker, age, etc would be appreciated :)  I'm trying to learn but so far I'm not very good unless they're signed.  The pansy one resembles some Saint Louis pieces that I've seen, but I can't find any examples of their pansies.

Hello Socs ....

My thoughts re your weights are:

1.  Pansy - Chinese 1930's or so.
2.  Canes & Twists - Scottish (Strathearn or earlier?)
3.  ?????
4.  Pink Flower - Modern Chinese

I really like the first two.

With all the above being said, I feel I must add I am much more student than teacher.  Others will be able to tell you much more.

Hi Lily.  Thanks for your response.  How can you spot the older Chinese made ones?  Is it just the quality?  I have 2 smaller ones from the same collection that are signed/etched "China" on the bottom.  Do you know around what year they would have signed them like that?  One of them is a really nice scramble type weight.  Thanks again for your help.

Hi Socs .... In this case, it was the glass, latticino, and centre cane.  There are other identifying features as well for Chinese weights.  Weights such as this were an attempt to imitate the beautiful antique French weights.  Most of what i have learned has been from sites such as this, books, visiting dealer sites, and even looking at ebay.  (Google Bob Hall Paperweights to see a Chinese pansy weight; I think the price will surprise you!).  I know some of the China weights are scratched signed but couldn't say anymore than most likely pre-1950.  As far as the scramble weights, and I have one myself, it's the clarity of the glass, the colors, and the canes.  IMHO, there are some very nice Chinese weights out there, particularly the Chinese whites.

Lily, That pansy definitely looks like mine.  I searched for hours trying to find out what it was and I never came across that page  ::)  Thanks for directing me there.  It looks like a good resource.

Hi, Selman's is also a good place to see some beauties, pansies included.
I regularly drool over their catalogues, past ones and present  ;)
