Title: Is this another Thomas Gammon optic pressed glass?

This looks very like my Thomas Gammon rummer featured previously. (I'm not very good at adding links so will try to add link to the discussion thread later ::)). I'm not sure what it actually is, but from looking in books would guess that it is some sort of sweetmeat glass(?) It has a curious slight lilac tinge to it. Am I on the right tracks? Are they related? Hopefully Bernard will look in ;)

Thanks Christine - I should have guessed about the sun purpling! It's not the only thing that's been out in the sun too long!

Post by: Bernard C on September 02, 2007, 05:12:52 AM: Anne — Sorry, it just doesn't grab me in the same way as your rummer, and the diamonds are too square. It might be Gammon, but I wouldn't even hazard a guess without seeing it, your rummer, and other marked examples together for comparison.

Anyway the Gammon pieces are all tableware. What could your latest find be for?

Post by: Anne E.B. on September 02, 2007, 04:00:32 PM: Thank you Bernard ;) Unfortunately both pieces are in storage for the time being (which hopefully won't now be long with an imminent house move). I was unable to locate the Gammon rummer so couldn't physically compare the two. However, when I am able, I will take a picture of them both side by side for interest. This latter one didn't have the spiral on the base that the rummer had, and the contours or outline of the molding seen at the sides didn't strike me as being as pronounced as the rummer. Hope you know what I mean, I'm way out of my comfort zone when talking about this kind of glass ::)

I'm still looking to see if I can find out what it actually is. The out-turned lip or rim, is perpendicular, so its impossible to use as a drinking glass. I thought it might be a jelly or dessert type glass but haven't seen anything like it yet. I just wonder if it might have had a lid of some kind, although there isn't a recess that it would fit in/on. It's an interesting piece and I can't wait to see them together.

No tool marks on the mystery one and as Bernard reported 8), the diamonds look more square. It looks a bit pathetic compared to the Thomas Gammon piece IMHO :) Still a mystery as to what it could be with its turned out rim.

Anne — Totally in agreement. Obviously not by Gammon's mouldmaker, who was putting his heart and soul into this innovative manufacturing technique.
