Title: An eclectic assortment of knowns, unknowns and maybes
Post by: Paul ADK on September 14, 2007, 02:14:24 AM
While digging around in the storeroom today we came across a couple tubs of glass that had been tucked away some time ago due to a lack of space.  The assortment included factory glass, studio glass, and some, like the mixed media Walleye pictured below, that is hard to describe.  Any help in correcting some of my guessed at attributions will be greatly appreciated.

Clicking on the thumbnail will take you to my album where in the upper right hand corner clicking the box "Next" will take the viewer to 12 more items.  Such information as I have on a item can be found below the photograph.

No 39 or 100_1358 (grey/clear bowl) is Tiffin Empress 5466 I think, smoke base & twilight folded edges.  Circa 50's Glass - Pina, Page 208.

Thank you Max!  With a little luck perhaps someone will recognize one or two of the others.

No. 46 or 100_1374 is L. E. Smith's Simplicity pattern, made in the 1960s.

No. 41 or 100_1363 also appears to be L. E. Smith's Simplicity, but I'm not entirely certain. Simplicity echoes Viking's Epic pattern. Both were production lines that included several different actual patterns under the name "Epic," if Viking, or "Simplicity," if Smith. I do not see this exact piece in either book. There are some pieces in the Smith book, but without the round foot/Marie on the bottom; and Viking has a form described as " four square" or "column ribbed," with similar lines, but it, too, is not shown with the round Marie at the bottom. I believe one would have to study some catalogs from both companies to be certain which it is. But, having seen several pieces in the "four square" form, I tend to believe that Viking's line had a different shaped foot. On the other hand, that foot does have a "Viking" look to it...  :)

Once again, I truly appreciate learning more about the glass we own.  Considering the vast range of companies and styles one could easily purchase a hundred books, go broke in the process, and still not touch the wealth of knowledge freely available on this site.
