Title: Confirmation (or otherwise!) of these Ysart Paperweights please.
Post by: johnfandmaryp on September 14, 2007, 03:51:58 PM
Hi all ~ long time no speak!!

I recently bought these paperwights at auction and would like confirmation or otherwise that they are Ysart before listing them on eBay. Any additional information about them would be very much appreciated.

I'm told that this is probably by Salvador Ysart:

This one I'm not so sure about:

Finally, I'm told this one may be a bit later, and possibly Vasart or Strathearn:

Many thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Cheers, John.

John, I think what you have been told or what you have assumed is about right.

First one can be matched by type to several in books - particularly Bob Hall's Scottish Paperweights. Oh yes, and there's a couple of those shown in my own web pages - one with a "Y" cane and one without. Second one would be hard for most of us to say who made it and when. Last one I reckon is Vasart, but I suppose it could be early Strathearn years.

hi!

john deacons brought out an alladins cave weight a few years ago which used a very similar technique to item 2. It might be worth checking in that direction as his techniques were influenced by the great and the good of scottish glass-making...

If I had to guess then I'd plump for strathearn - have a look at richard mores site to check any matches!!
