Found this being sold as a bowl in a charity shop last week. Turned it the right way up and it's a big round plinth. Black glass, not a mark on it anywhere... it's 3" high, 5" diameter at the top and 6½" diameter across the base. Any suggestions as to who made it please?

It looks like the Bagley one on p 27 Bagley Glass, Bowey and Parsons

Anne — I can't remember what it goes with, but it's something fairly well known. It's not English, and it is certainly not Bagley, Christine. My favourite contender is the fish centrepiece bowl and statuette discussed recently here (http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,17405.0.html). You might find a complete set by searching on eBay or the Internet. If you and Ken provide the essential fitting measurements, you could work it out. Ken needs to specify the outside diameter of the base ring on his bowl; you need to provide the inside fitting diameter of your top locating ring.
Best of luck to you both in converting spare parts into a complete item.

Crumbs Bernard! I think Christine is right. I just looked in Bagley & Parsons and there it is, my plinth's measurements match those given in the book and all. Thanks Christine, I looked through the book and managed to miss it totally!

Hmmm and now I've also found one under the Poisson Volant set on Black Poppy. Why is everything I buy a puzzle? See http://www.black-poppy.co.uk/mc/unknown/Dscn2649.jpg
Bernard, I should have also said thank you for your info in my last post, but didn't, so thank you.

Hmmm. I've just found it in Bowey & Parsons, pp21–22 in mine. I can see how Angela worked this out, but I've never seen this Empress bowl set. This may explain why there are two slightly different versions of your plinth, Anne. I think I may have both versions in my spares boxes somewhere, so I will have a close look the next time I get them out. Apologies for being so dogmatic, Christine.
Nevertheless the vast majority of this style of plinth will go with the Poisson Volant set, but do take care to make accurate measurements when matching them up, just in case.
I would welcome the measurements to compare with mine.
