Title: number on cenedese label
Post by: bidda on October 02, 2007, 09:41:39 PM
hi all,
does anyone know what the number on some paper cenedese label means. i have a pink opalino bowl with a cenedese label on the base that has the number 941 apparently typed onto it. could it be an artist number or a design number? it also has a green/gold label and a silver/black label that i've never seen before.
thanks,
bidda

It looks like a stock label to me, with the model/design number on it.  I have seen these on Whitefriars and on Mdina before,  most useful !!

thanks Lynn,

have you any idea where one could find out more info about model numbers? i would imagine that a model number could indicate a specific artist or time of manufacture. that could be just wishful thinking on my part; from what i've seen the maestros were notoriously loathe to keep detailed records  :chky: which can be crazy making.

I can't help I'm afraid.  Either you are lucky as with Whitefriars where catalogues exist and so you can tie up the number to that, or you would need to contact the company itself and ask if they have archives that might help.

3 labels on the same piece?
Excellent!

;D pretty cool, huh? it was part of a lot that i bought from the unsold inventory of a shop that had been closed for 40+ years. all the pieces had original labels (except for one Barbini fazzoletto vase). and were in perfect condition, though this was the only one with 3. that was a fun day :)
