Post by: shandiane78 on October 25, 2007, 12:23:20 AM
Does anyone know the maker of this and/or approximate value? Thanks in advance!

Hi
It looks very much like a Archimede Seguso bird  try here

http://www.great-glass.co.uk/library/lib4a.htm

there are similar ones shown on this page. His pieces are top quality and some are expensive

Hi,
I think this is a much newer piece.
Unsure of maker, but not Archimede Seguso.
Hope this helps
Javier

Thank you both for your replies!

Javier, you're not the first to suggest this is a newer piece (unless you go by a different screen name in another Murano glass forum).  ;) I've looked and looked, but haven't been able to find anything similar. It's quite frustrating!

Thanks again,
Shannon

This is the first time I've seen a bird with similar modeling - Ebay item 250211807761. This one has a Barbini label. Anyone else think they are similar? Wing shape is different, I know, but this is the closest I've seen.

Shannon, I don't see a lot of similarity beyond the wings being spread and the tail feathers open. The wing structures, as you mentioned, are particularly different. Sorry. We will probably run across your bird when we least expect it.

Hi. First of all as I've just joined, I would like to say hello to everyone. I have been badly bitten with collecting glass, in particular animals! I have a dove which is identical in every way to the one in photo, it has a label on which reads FRANCO MORETTI murano, also round edge of round label is written vetreria pescheria 15.
I also have a beautiful swanBUT this one has oblong label on base which reads FEDERICA , s.croce 711 venezia. Can anybody tell me more about them and their labels? When I've figured out how to post pics, will sort some out.  Thanks

Wow, breezybabe, thanks so much! I would love to see a photo of your bird and the label. I will start searching around with the information you've given.

Anita, looks like you were right...It came along when least expected!

I haven't found much info yet. It's hard, because apparently there's a notable author by the same name, plus all the Italian glass by Carlo Moretti. I did find this bird that sold on ebay though, and the label is visible there: item # 320170757199 It's got that same distinctive wing shape.

Hi Shannon,
You cant just go by wings, since most birds will have wings and there really isnt that many ways of making a different wings, specially in newer pieces. I would rather go by the proportions and decoration.

Shannon, the bird you found on eBay does look a lot like the same design as yours and breezybabe's. The wings look fairly distinctive to me -- unlike any other wings I had seen. Some of the companies, e.g. Fratelli Toso, tended to do the same designs with different decorations. This may be the case for the Franco Moretti birds, too. I thought your bird looked like a very good one, but I had no idea who made it. I'm glad breezybabe has one with a label. It made ID'ing so much easier.

I don't know anything about Franco Moretti beyond that he did a couple of good birds that we have now seen.

Here is Franco Moretti's website. http://www.francomoretti.com/INDEX.HTML (http://www.francomoretti.com/INDEX.HTML) His daughter Yvonne is a member here and there are about four other threads on here mentioning his work

Hmm, I just checked the link and you have to choose the Italiano option! Otherwise it's under construction

Thanks Christine! Too bad I don't read Italian. I tried to get this to come up in a Google search, so I could select "Translate Page", but no luck. I suppose I could copy some text and use one of those translating sites for it...Maybe we can find out how long they have been in business.

That's great, breezybabe. For some reason I can't get the photos to enlarge, but doesn't that label have an older look to it? Maybe 1960's?

If you go to google and click on the languages tool then scroll down, there is a translate web page option

Whoops, Yvonne is Franco's sister, they are the children of Alessandro Moretti

Thanks, Christine. I was able to translate it, but unfortunately I see no mention of years of operation or anything similar.

There is an email contact and Franco looks to be in his late fifties, early sixties. There is Moretti family stuff here but only mentions and snapshots of Franco http://www.morettiglas.20fr.com/ (http://www.morettiglas.20fr.com/)

Martin, I do plan on selling it eventually. I'm working on an online store of my own, and it's taking me forever to get around to it. But someday...

Breezybabe, Hi and welcome, your little pink pony, it may be a good idea to start a new topic for it,

I mean to comment on the pony. I saw one that sold at this site, and was described as "probably Seguso". Sold for a nice price too...
