Can anyone suggest where I can find a good glass photographer in London, and anything I should watch out for ?
In my quest to put together a book on Ernest Gordon I'm now getting to the point where I need to photograph my collection - my photography skills aren't bad but I don't have the kit or room for a really professional job.

taylog1 — well, I think you are wrong. I've seen your photographs, and they always look superb and get the message over to me. Why spend a small fortune on a professional, who may not properly understand glass, when for a fraction you can buy all the equipment and software much discussed here on the GMB. ... and you retain full control and copyright.
I hope you are just having a lack-of-confidence day.
You can do it, and you will have all our support.

Thanks for the kind words - looking around the web I'm tempted to hire a studio for a few hours and see what I can do with the right equipment first.

For Ysart Glass I used Steve Tanner. He is based just off Hatton Garden and is also a glass collector. I could not recommend him more highly.
The logistics were difficult as I first had to travel the length and breadth of the country to gather all the glass and then get everything to the studio. With the photographer, his assistant, the book designer, a collector and a lot of advance planning - we worked almost non-stop from about 9 in the morning until 11 at night. Total production costs for the book were very high and photography represented less than 2% of that.

Gareth, you could talk to Simon Bruntnell (member here on the board) - he's at the Ruskin Glass Centre, but knows about glass photography: www.northlightphotography.co.uk - there's a price list for his rates on the website too.

I can only echo Anne's suggestion: having one of his calendars I can confirm that Simon's work is excellent.
Gareth, please mail me.
