Title: A slender blue satin vase I broke many years ago
Post by: sirenbrian on November 17, 2007, 04:47:26 AM
Hi everyone,
I hope you can help clear up a family mystery for me.  My parents were married in 1970 and received a taller, slender satiny blue vase as an engagement present.  My family is Maltese, so it is very likely that the vase was Italian.  It was about 12 inches tall.

Sadly, I broke this vase in 1985. It was my Mum's favourite, and though she tells me I'm being silly about it now, I told her I'd like to try and replace it.  She sent me the only photograph she could find of it - it was just a small object in the background, but you can see the color/shape/features well enough, hopefully, to identify it.

It felt "satin" to the touch - you could also describe it as "frosted" in appearance. Occasional eBay searches have turned up items made of similar looking material, but no score yet. Seguso was mentioned more than once.

All help will be greatly appreciated!

either Fratelli Toso or Carlo Moretti around 1960 but I don't know how long these were produced 1970 would be well possible.  I have one of these tall "Etruscan style" ewers in frosted lemon yellow with white foot and handle - which is a bit bright and garish.

hiya - as Ivo says it could well be by Carlo Moretti, it certainly looks right judging by the satin finish and colour - try Googling Moretti Satinato ....

A search of eBay for Moretti satinato may produce results too. Good luck. :)

Hi everyone,
I wrote to the Moretti company and sent them the picture above, and a link here, but they wrote back and said it's not a vase they made.  :mus:  I'll keep search with the other suggestions, though!
