Title: Identification help with Gold Fleck -Cobalt Blue Fish- Murano?
Post by: glassard on November 20, 2007, 04:22:56 AM
Hi,

I am new here and I was wondering if anyone has seen a fish like mine? If you know if it really Murano and possible value? Here are the details and 2 pictures I have it it.

I bought it from someone about 20 years ago, the woman was Italian but lived in Virginia and traveled to Italy often. She said it was Murano and that she probably bought it in the late 60's to 70's (but I can't clearly remember what she said but I thought she said it was about my age at the time and I am now 39). I fell in love with this fish but now it is time for it to move on.

It is about 12 inches tall from base to tip of tail. The bubble work is awesome, You can see the round bubbles under the fish eye but as they move back towards the the tail the bubbles are stretched up the tail giving the appearance of a texture. My pictures make the fish body look more gold then it actually is, since the gold fleck in the flash over dominates the cobalt blue. When you look at the fish you get the genearl feeling that it is cobalt blue and the gold fleck give the texturing. As with most Murano gold fleck pieces. The base is clear with gold fleck.

I was pretty sure when I got it there was a partial tag but it is gone now.

I consider it to have a tooling flaw at the middle of the end of the tail where the tools pulled out the fin.

Any insight would be appreciated,
Lizz

This looks very much like it could be Murano, as I was handling a very similar, labelled Murano fish last Saturday, with all the characteristics you describe.
This topic may need to be transferred to the Murano board. Moderators?

Marcus,

Thank you for your response. When you were looking at it, did it have a value?

How do I go about moving the topic to the Murano board?

Hi Lizz,
A move to the Murano board is not something you can do yourself, and it is better to wait for a moderator to move the topic, rather than post twice.

Moderators please can you move this topic to Murano forum please??

There are better qualified and insured people to advise you on value, and I am a Czech glass specialist, so my knowledge of Murano prices, based on one item, would be less than helpful.

Regards,

Marcus

I think this is Archimede Seguso. Looks like the first pic on this page (but different color). http://www.great-glass.co.uk/library/lib4a.htm Very nice!

Shandiane,

I would say those two fish are exactly alike except for mine is blue. Thank you so much.

How would I go about finding a value for it and then trying to sell it in an appropriate market?

I knew the woman said it was old but I did not know how old.

It is a truely awesome fish.

Thanks again,

Lizz
