Just a long shot, has anyone heard of Poplar Glass Works Ltd?
1946 registered office was 41 Sackville St. London
1946 leased property in Brentwood for 7 years, A Godfrey Thornfield of Hendon involved as Director & Surety
1947 company wound up
Possibly set up after the war and just failed to make it, or expansion. Cannot get on-line company data.
Odd that it should use the name Poplar unless there was a previous business their. Not much trace but a Poplar history site did mention:
Thames Plate Glass Works. Bow Creek. c1700 to c1840 (vague) closed in 1874 a school "Bow Creek London Board School" was built on the site c1894 or 1870 ::), closed 1965 demolished after 1956. Close to Canning Town Station.Although dates could be wrong as contradicted on another part of same site, but not by much.

A tidy up of this one...
Godfrey Thornfield was born in 1904. Invented a safety razor c1942 and got a US patent in 1942.
He had a shop at 40 Sackville Street, W1 with company Godfrey Thornfield Ltd. Sold bottles, jars and a range of decorative items, guessing that he imported glass and decided to set up his own bottle factory, hence Poplar Glassworks Limited. Clearly got into difficulties as his company had a liquidation request filed by a glass importer (Hall, of Holborn). Poplar Glassworks also got liquidated in 1948. He set up G Thornfield Ltd in 1953 and was a director until 1994 age 90. Shop in Sidcup, Kent selling similar.
Possibly he dealt with Canning Glass works but not found a connection.
Not found set up date so far.
