Title: Small Squarish Murano Bowl, Cobalt w/Bullicante and Gold - Maker?
Post by: shandiane78 on November 26, 2007, 05:26:03 PM
Can anyone attribute this to a particular maker? Thanks so much!

These bowls were designed by Carlo Scarpa for Venini in the 1930's but may have been made by some other companies into the 1950's and 60's.

i edited the link out and posted your bowls picture - Javier

Hi,
Most of this bowls are not by Carlo Scarpa, but Seguso, like your piece.
Also, please do not post links to your items for sale here.
You can just post a photo of the piece.
There is another section of the website where you can post your website link.
Thanks
Javier

Thank you Javier! Do you think mine is also Seguso, or maybe an unknown maker?

Svazzo, I also favored Seguso. I had a heavy sculptural bowl that had the same color and gold, though the form was very different. My bowl did not have a label, but looked like Seguso. This bowl reminded me of that bowl.

I read some good online advice from a Venini expert a while back. I don't remember who it was right now. He was writing about fazzoletti, but his advice is probably good for all forms of Murano. If a Venini piece has no trace of a signature, it should just be considered general Murano when it comes to price. Many of the forms are so easily reproduced that without a signature, the source is uncertain.

Thanks Anita! I could tell mine was not one of the Scarpa/Venini bowls, so I'm happy to hear that it's probably Seguso, rather than "generic" or unknown.

Sorry for coming back in on this thread. After I write something, it seems that I always think of other things that are important. Many of the people who worked with Venini worked with other companies. So, things may be made by Scarpa, Martinuzzi, Bianconi, and others that do not have the Venini mark. I don't know if any of the Zecchin soffiati pieces done for Venini are marked. It can all be very perplexing. I did want to throw this in, because just because something doesn't say Venini doesn't mean it isn't designed by one of the artists that worked with them.
