Title: Satinized Marbled Glass Vase
Post by: TxSilver on January 09, 2008, 09:53:15 PM
I recently bought this cased vase and have trouble even starting to identify it. The vase has smooth, satinized marble glass on the outside and white glass on the inside. The rim is ground and slightly beveled on the outside. There are no signatures. It is a fairly heavy vase. I uploaded three pictures of the vase. TIA for any help -- even a potential country would help.

Hi Anita,
my guess, is Eastern Europe, possibly Czech,Austrian, (Bohemian) early 20thC, and i think the ground top is a
sign that its not one of the top makers, who would have left a smooth rim.
It may have had a brass or silver top, to hold the flowers, and to cover the rim.

I think the ground rim is more a sign of it being Continental Europe rather than not a good maker and equally it may not have had a metal rim. It's certainly one of the more unusual ones and I would say probably Bohemia

Thank you for the help, Christine. I liked the vase, though I did not have a clue about it. The mouth area doesn't have any scrapes, so I don't think there was a metal frog. I think the vase would have been beautiful with a moriage collar, but there is no signs of enamelling. Maybe someone will check in soon that will know exactly what it is. Thank you for giving me a place to start looking for the ID.

I forgot to mention that the vase is a little over 8" tall.
