Title: Heavy 2 handled vase/mug
Post by: david31162 on January 20, 2008, 01:25:51 PM
I'm not sure what to call this. It is over 2kgs but is only 17.5 cm tall and 13 cm diameter(not including handles).
Any ideas about identity?

The vase looks French to me, see this signed Bayel piece on ebay for comparison http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120043541454

I also recall seeing a similarly shaped vase by Daum some time ago, though it was signed and decorated with an acid cutback design.

Mosquito-Thank you, it looks almost identical to the Bayel piece. Do you know of any site where I can Find out any more about Bayel? I cannot find many references.

I've just noticed that it glows like crazy under UV light.
Does that help support the Bayel identity or narrow down the date of production?

Makes it more likely that it may be a Czech copy IMHO, probably 30s/40s. Green French uranium is not something I've come across, more usually yellow. The ebay piece is also bubbly, the proper term has vanished down my brains black hole!

I'd still say French rather than Czech. I've had a few 30s moulded pieces by Daum in a pale green Uranium glass, very similar in shade to your vase. I'm afraid I can't add anything more about Bayel, I came across that piece by chance.
