Title: I.D. Help on Old/Ancient? Glass Piece

Hello, does anyone have any opinions on this piece I picked up at an estate sale? It measures about 3 inches tall. I am clueless but I liked it - especially for $5.00. Thanks in advance

Can we see the bottom please, that may help someone. I don't know whether its genuinely ancient or not but at $5 it doesn't matter much

I would say it was mould blown, not hot worked; therefore more likely not ancient

Ancient glass of this type was mould blown. The reproductions being made today are accurate and as good as the real thing except that they are affordable in gift shops if not on eBay  ;)

The patinas are obviously chemically applied. But a lot of the ancient reproductions are sold in 'as new' condition which in my opinion are collectible in their own right. They are hand-made by skilled glassmakers who have studied the ancient techniques and are thus useful to compare against contemporary pieces too.

The American glass artist Mark Peiser also made "ancient" glass around 1970.  Most of his pieces were miniatures (and signed)  and command good prices today.  I love your piece, and it was quite a bargain.

the clue is with the pontil, there's no patina, as the pontil iron would of still been on while it was sprayed
