Title: irridescent apple - ID = (probably) Midsummer Glass
Post by: Lustrousstone on January 26, 2008, 08:24:04 PM
When I bought this I thought it was Phoenician, I was even convinced it was marked Malta on the bottom. Now I don't know. It's cobalt blue and green marvered onto clear and then irridised. Don't think it's Ditchfield and the matt base seems odd but I can't find anything to describe as a flaw. The irridescence is much better than my pictures

I've boosted brightness and contrast of the two photos to improve clarity.

Though the shape is like an apple, that sort of 'seam' on one side makes it look more like a peach.

Many of the apple paperweights have a 'seam'.

Dimensions 3 inches wide, 2.5 inches tall, 9.5 inches round

Size is about right for Midsummer. Can't be sure...it was a long time ago and I am getting older by the day!

After at bit more ferreting I've concluded that Midsummer is highly probable, given the fact that this was what Adam concluded here (http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,17362.0.html) and the similarity with the finish, including the texture, of the vase I had here (http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,5893.0.html) plus a few odd internet bits
