Title: Stourbridge 19th Cent ,2 foot + tall Candle holder Air twist stem
Post by: Andy on January 27, 2008, 07:57:13 PM
Now, this is an impressive piece of architecture ;D
An old family piece, definitely 19th Century, it stands at least 2 foot tall :o
weighs a ton, a long air twist stem, must be 3 inches wide, i think the metal is
plated, there is (or was) some kind of nymph in the centre, unfortunately my Auntie
is a bit eccentric, and has hidden it ,(hopefully not thrown away), something about her
rather strange religious views about depictions of icons or something
I very much hope its in her loft somewhere, but she wont say :spls:
The round bubble on the base is hollow, i suppose base is 7 or 8 inches wide,
I forgot to look today, i seem to remember there is a polished pontil.

I know size isnt everything, but hey, this is some piece of glass!
I think its probably Stourbridge, but any clues or ideas, and comments, welcome.

It is likely that this was the product of a jeweller or silversmith and it may have a mark somewhere on the metal. Several glass companies made the glassware directly for these firms to their designs and you might have some more luck on a candle or silver forum that covers plate.

Thanks Frank,
I will keep researching this from time to time, my Auntie tells me we had an old Uncle
who worked for Adie Brothers, a Birmingham Silver company, although googling Adie , it says
early 20th Century, i would imagine this piece is much earlier, and i believe we had a glass worker
in the family from that area also. Watch this space, for more info!
