Title: potted saint
Post by: Ivo on February 08, 2008, 03:16:17 PM
Just a little picture I could not resist. In a convent in Arequipa, Peru we ran into a glass display case in which (among other things) 6 pieces of glass. All six were Kralik rose vases, circa 1900, nicely iridescent with a metal grill - and these had been pressed into use as reliquaries. They were neatly labeled "tongue of unknown saint m/f" etc.

Did you find those during a Peru-sal?   ^-^

Funny how glass makes its way around the world, isn't it?  Did you get a glimpse of the contents?  :spls:

They were quite reluctant to open the bottles, or even the display case! But then, I never had great hopes for men in frocks in the first place ...

of course not. Actually it was in a Franciscan monastery called La Recoleta in Arequipa ; feel free to contact them if you feel the urge. Have you heard of the Spanish Inquisition?

Ivo, what an odd place to find them and in such an unusual usage too.  Bizarre!

Welcome back, you've been missed.
