This little five sided piece of glass has a Meri Lasi label, so that's clear,(it says Meri Lasi, Made in Finland, and the number 2) but I'm not sure what it's for. I'm guessing it's a candlestick. And could it be meant to represent a volcano? I saw a thread on this board going back to 2005 about a strange object that might have been by Meri Lasi, which might also have been a volcano shaped candleholder, but it was nothing like mine. Mine seems to have outines of foliage on the "lower slopes" and another mark that looks like a sun, but can't get them to photograph in any way that helps. So any thoughts welcome.

As the owner of the other Meri Lasi candle holder (http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,755.0.html), Iain I think yours probably is intended to be a candle holder too. Sadly Meri Lasi are no more, but some of their designs seem to be still made by Muurla Lasi, who were a neighbouring firm apparently. The Finns seem to like producing volcano-shaped candle holders too. Muurla Lasi have a volcano-shaped candle holder in their list still, but it's not quite the same as yours Iain: http://www.muurladesign.com/index.php?PAGE=5&PG_ID=3&P_ID=102

Whereas Iain's seem to be solid volcano-shaped candle holders, those Muurla Lasi candle holders look as if they have the tea-lights UNDER them! Are they just cones with an open base? Wouldn't they get VERY hot? :o

Mine, in fact is also a cone with an open base, but I had thought that a candle would just sit on the top of the holder, so I was surprised to see a tealight candle sitting inside the dome. I've just put a tealight into a little glass Ikea holder and put the dome over it. The light looks good, now I'll see just how hot it gets!

And the answer is.......it does get very hot indeed! Too hot to touch for sure, but the little tealight burned for 2 hours and the holder seems to have come to no harm :hiclp:
