Title: To identify make and name ID: Whitefriars spiral ribbed mushroom posy
Post by: turnip45 on February 09, 2008, 09:25:18 PM
Hello there

Could someone out there help me identify the make and year of the enclosed bowl/vase.  As can be seen, it is a lovely mellow mint green, 21 and half centimetres across and 6 centimetres high.  The base curves in like waisted and the pattern is narrow waves, more prominant on the underside, swirling down to the bottom of the base.  It has a polished pontil and very gentle wear round the base plus, 1 tiny bubble.  I suspect Thomas Webb because of the size, (Whitefrairs is wider) however, I am no expert :( it could be another manufacturer.

Please help.
Thanks in advance.

Mushroom poseys are sometimes a puzzle, we had a recent topic about them here: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,18892.0.html - it might help a bit.

Hi,

This looks like it could well be Powell (Whitefriars), spiral ribbed mushroom posy bowl, in Sea-green from the photos, but your description of ".....mint green" suggests something different!

Hello Nigel

Thank you for your comment and please ignore "mint green", I wasn't thinking straight: the colour is true to the middle image, which represents WF's Sea-Green.  In future I will let the images speak for themselves - what am I like!

Kindest regards
Beryl
