Title: Footed Ribbed Bowl Cinnamon, i thought Whitefriars, but somethings not right !
Post by: Andy on February 29, 2008, 12:41:08 PM
I was sure this was a ribbon trailed 1935 Whitefriars bowl, but checking the catalogues c 1930s,
the colour and size dont match, im sure ive seen it before somewhere
Its a sort of Cinnamon browny colour, 8 3/4" wide, and just under 3 inches tall.
A large polished pontil, most of the base, 2 1/4" i think its an applied foot.
Any ideas please??
Andy :D

You may have seen the Bolgeblick range by Aino Aalto its in most Scandi glass books and i believe one piece is a similar shape.Memory not too good it was a long time ago that i saw them. They probably didnt have a pontil though,I think they were pressed.

looks like Bolgeblick was pressed, mine def has large polished pontil.

googling Bolgeblick iitala, found these two helpful remarks...

'The Aalto’s submitted separate designs and Aino’s (Bolgeblick glass meaning pressed) design won. In 1933..'
and
'The series was born as a competition piece under the name of "Bolgeblick" roughly translated as "rings on water". In this design competition Aino Alto ...'

Hi Johnphillip, or other WF collectors,
am i right in discounting this one as Whitefriars ?
If so, any other ideas?
