Title: seguso bear ?
Post by: lambden on March 01, 2008, 11:05:47 PM
Hi

I have two of these lovely bears, I think they must date to the 50s or 60s any idea who they could be attributed to. the largest bear measures 7.5inches long x 4.5 in height.
Thanks

It looks like it may be an Archimede polveri piece to me. Simply beautiful!

Mmm... forgot to add the Seguso to Archimede. I think it would be a great addition to the zoo.

I also have a seal (picture enclosed) do you think this could be by the same person, they are not for sale but for insurance any idea what thet would be worth now, I paid £60 for the bears about 15 years ago.

Thankyou

The seal also looks like an Archimede Seguso piece. I haven't seen them before, so they are nice to look at.

Archimede Seguso is a company named after the man. I believe that Archimede himself designed the polveri pieces. (I may be wrong, so please correct if I am.) They are also called sfummato because the colors blend into each other, with no distinct line between colors.

I do not know the value. Polveri pieces tend to sell well. If you google Seguso polveri or sfummato, you may be able to find some comparable animals in online stores.
