Title: Victorian Spiralled Jug Nailsea or Peloton
Post by: mhgcgolfclub on March 21, 2008, 08:49:32 AM
I bought this Victorian spiralled jug cheaply as it has a little damage and because it looked interesting, my first thoughts were either Nailsea or Peloton although I am pretty certain Peloton will be ruled out
I also thought it may have been to late for Nailsea but on checking it seemed they made items up to 1874, some of there items were made in a clear glass with a green tinge which this item appears to be , may have been made from window glass, the jug stands 5.75" tall and has a spiralled body with an applied handle, polished pontil , then there are the white , Green and a little blue splotches within the glass and a number of small air bubbles,

thanks Roy

Not Peloton.  Peloton is little strips of coloured glass marvered onto the surface like this

I think the clear fluted handle may determine this. Mottled patterns were made by Nailsea, but I can't be sure about a clear handle.

All the handles on Nailsea jugs in the Glass-Study look of a very different technique.

Sorry, Frank. I would have visited Glass-Study.com to confirm but my internet was playing up. Probably a gateway problem and nothing to do with servers.
