I have seen these (or something similar) described on ebay as Murano Sommerso. Could someone please say if this is correct, and who the maker might be. It would be nice to know the age of it too please. Sadly it has a small internal chip at the top :(
Thanks

Yup that is Murano, and yup it is sommerso - even double sommerso. For makers we tend to look at Mandruzzato, but there were quite a numnber of Muranese who made these. It is the staple of glass production.

Thanks for your comment Ivo. I will go and google Mandrazzato now :)
What does the Summerso part of the description mean? Is it to do with the layers of colour?
Do you have an idea of when this might have been made please?
Thanks :)

Sommerso means submerged, so one colour (or more) submerged (cased) in another to give a layered look

Janet, these might help: http://www.mandruzzato.ve.it/ and http://www.alessandromandruzzato.com/ENG/index.html - note it's Mandruzzato not Mandrazzato. :)
