Title: Victorian Satin Glass vases?
Post by: Littleblackhen on April 03, 2008, 02:17:00 PM
I have a pair of vases which I am planning to sell.  I would like to know how best to describe them, and what age to ascribe to them, please, if anyone could help.  I think that they are Victorian Satin glass, but am I right?  What is the gold work and flowers on them called please? An idea of how best to price them would be good too :)

Does anyone know how I could clean them without damaging them, as they are quite dirty which seems to be inground into the white glass and doesn't come off with warm water and soap?

Thanks :)

Victorian satin glass sounds good to me. Are they a proper pair? The pictures look different on them even though they face different directions. The good thing about satin glass is you can go at it with Cif or something similar as long as you avoid the decoration - try it on the base first

Speaking of the base(s), can we get a peek at those?

I can get a photo of the bases but it will have to be the next time I visit my dad, as I don't have a digital camera so he has to take all my photos  :o

I think they are a proper pair, the gold paint/enamel on one is a slightly darker colour than the other (not as much as the photo makes it look though), but I thought that might be different aging.  The backs of both are undecorated so they are meant to face the way they do.

Probably different painters - one did rights another lefts. Proper pairs are always good.
