Title: Stunning decanter with matching engraved stopper letters :-)
Post by: Andy on April 04, 2008, 10:45:21 AM
For the decanter /crystal lovers on the board, heres another lovely one , had for ages.
Its has Tie Letters/ Match Letters vt ,could be Vt, dont think the v is a capital.
Any Ideas? Its covered in cross cutting, top quality, and im sure hand cut.
No other clues apart from letters, my feeling is British/Irish rather than Bohemian,
some age wear. Guess 1930-60  ::)
Thanks,
Andy

Discovered this is called 'Pyramid Cutting'
Im now thinking its more likely English late 19th Century.

Just a bump from 2008,
and ive had another look, its quite likely its a continental 71 (crossed 7) than vt   ::)
I know its a long shot, any idea of a good Continental Crystal maker for this one ?
its very finely done, could be earlier than my earlier guess.
Cheers
Andy

A quote from Bernard on this thread

http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,19505.0.html
'Kristi — In my experience, British tie number "1"s are either a single vertical, or a single vertical on a horizontal base like the first two strokes in a game of hangman;  "7"s are as printed here.

Continental "1"s have a long, downward pointing curved serif, so that the figure looks like a tent just about to topple over in a strong wind from the left;  "7"s have a horizontal cross bar in the middle.

On their own English "7"s and Continental "1"s can be quite similar'

Not sure why i didnt notice the coincidence with the 71 on this one  :-[
