Title: Just a "thankyou" to Ivo and his little book
Post by: BJB on April 04, 2008, 01:14:28 PM
I just want to say a really heartfelt thanks to Ivo and his little book of glass you are a star  ;D.

I bought 5 lovely glasses with airtwist stems each with a mark on the base and thanks to Ivo's book I now know they are Rheinische Glashutten AG. (Just need to find the date and designer now).

Its the one book I have in my handbag all the time, and I love it.

Thanks Ivo  :hiclp:

Very pleased for you and thank you for the kudo!

Rheinische is usually referred to as Ehrenfeld, after the Cologne suburb where it was located, and they are particularly known for heraldic enameled wares. If you can post a pic of the glasses maybe we we can find out by the style when it was designed, and by whom...

Hi Ivo,

Here is a link to the exact glass I bought, but I can't read the German bit underneath.

(sorry about the long link  :-[ )

Rummers from the table service "Wilhelm"; Rheinische Glashütten AG, Cologne Ehrenfeld, circa 1888. Light green glass, stem with enclosed spiral hollow threads; offset knop, height 19.5 cm.
Literature: W. Schäfke, Ehrenfeld glass from the Historical period, Cologne 1979, 180, no. 435

Now that is pretty well researched. I doubt if you'll find a designer (they only appeared by name after the turn of the century) but the year is clear and so is the reference.

Hi Ivo,

Many thanks for the translation, I didn't think they were as old as that, but they are lovely glasses. ( I wont tell you I thought the mark was Baccarat until I put my glasses on  ::) ).

Now just to decide on ebay or a good auction house, (as the wedding fund is bit low due to some more deposits having been paid  ;) )
