Title: Big Murano Dog - ID help needed please
Post by: alexander on April 15, 2008, 06:20:58 PM
Hi, I found this oddball at a fair this weekend, he's approx 10" tall and heavy.
His body is grey beneath clear sommerso, head grey glass. The applied bow is in clear glass.
The pontil mark is firepolished and the base ground and polished flat.

Any ideas?

I'm pretty sure he's from Murano, what little I have found hasn't helped much.
Pretty good quality glass and workmanship.

Thanks  :)

Any help with this one would be very much appreciated.
When I first saw it thought Barbini for now I can't find anything to suggest that or any hint to why I would have thought that originally.

I have seen some smaller poor copies in yellows and reds, this item feels like a quality maker tho,
good glass and good workmanship.

Thanks in advance for any hints  :)

Archimede Seguso did large dogs in smoke/gray glass but the labelled example have a photo of, has much more conventional modeling.
His more abstract modeling which is nearer to this (but beyond it) is seen in a well known range of large animals using mottled black & white or black & red glass.
Good luck, Ed.
