Title: Help Id Murano ? Sommerso Bowl
Post by: snesbit on April 16, 2008, 01:46:18 PM
Hoping to get some input on the maker and time frame of this thick walled sommerso bowl.

It measures 6 1/2" wide and 2 7/8" high.

The color is pretty accurate in the pictures, smoke gray free form stripe in 2" thick clear wall.

Because of the wall diameter and stripe the pics give some odd reflections (sorry!), the most accurate view is straight from the side.

The base is flat ground / polished with overall fine wear.

Thanks in advance for any help!

no idea who made it but this is freeform with a single streak of colour, not sommerso - and it looks more Czech, Scandinavian or German than Italian.

looks like it could be Kosta Boda, I'm no expert but it looks similar to some I've been looking at recently.

Thank you both for your input.

It appears it's still a bit of a mystery, but I'll try doing more research in the Swedish / Kosta direction.
