Title: two blue vases - perhaps maltese?
Post by: Ivo on April 20, 2008, 12:00:00 PM
Two small thickwalled vases in dark blue with with white swirl decor. The bottom is polished matt, not gloss.  Has anyone met this type of glass before?

I was thinking Mtarfa, but you may be right - the quality is too high. Maybe Kosta?

Im sure Mtarfa is usually signed, Ivo, im a little apprehensive when giving my opinion
on your pieces, as i know youve been collecting glass and knowledge for alot longer than me ;)
I would say, they look like pieces you may find in a nice department store, John lewis
or maybe  T K Maxx, maybe originating in Eastern  Europe somewhere??

Regards Andy

Not all Mtarfa is signed, i had two almost identical pieces, one signed and one with black Mtarfa label but NO sig.

Hi Sue,
i presume you dont mean nearly identical to Ivos' pieces, i agree , just read, not all Mtarfa signed,
i found this nice example on ebay at present,

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320241670430

I just feel its a different style to Ivos, and most seems even more simple than the ebay example.
regards Andy

Sorry Andy, i did'nt make myself clear, no, not to Ivo's pieces, just to Mtarfa being signed or not.
