Title: Purple iridescent jug....Kralik?
Post by: Tigerchips on April 28, 2008, 07:07:54 PM
Hi, I bought this jug for 50p. It's damaged but it was cheap so I bought it anyway. I don't think it's new as it has a lot of wear to it.

I'm wondering if it's Bohemian or perhaps even Belgian?

It has a deeply polished pontil, the glass is clear with a light purple colour sprayed over it. And it's slightly iridescent too.

Shame about the crack though... :'(

Hello,

Your pitcher is American made, by the Dunbar Glass Company of Dunbar, West Virginia, in operation from 1923 to 1953. They made more blown glass pitchers, tumblers and vases in so many shapes, with a ringed design than any other glass company that I know of. The finish on the surface was called Iridescent Luster and it was done in a number of different colors. --- Mike

Thank's Mike. I never would have guessed American as this is the first piece of hand blown American glass I've had the pleasure of owning.  :hiclp:

What did you use to identify this as Dunbar?  I have the monograph and it's not in there.
