Hi Everyone,

I wondered if anyone could tell me anything about this lovely glass please. I bought it about 2 years ago at an auction but have been unable to find anything out about it. How old do you think it is and does anyone know who could have made it? Any clue or ideas would be great. Many thanks. Janet.

It's a lovely goblet, I can see why you love it.   :)  It looks as if it might have been etched through a stencil, so I'm not sure you'll be able to find a artist that made it.  I assume it isn't signed on the base?

Thankyou for your replies. I've posted some more images, sorry if they're not very good, its so difficult to photgraph. I'm not sure what the glass is to commemorate. The phrase etched on the glass says 'Be Ye Gentlemen of name and of arms' . Its an olde worlde type design with Knights on horseback jousting etc. The glass (or is it a rumer?) measures 18cm high and 10.5cm across the top. Its quite heavy at nearly 800g. It has an air twist stem with 4 air twists....if you know what i mean. Thankyou for any help. Janet.

my instincts , which are frequently wrong  ::)  is that it is not very old, late 20thCentury.

I'm inclined to agree with Andy. 

Perhaps it's a souvenir from a festival.  We have a Renaissance Festival here that has jousting.  When I Googled "gentlemen of name and of arms" it showed a document called To Cry of Joust of Peace, from the 15th C (there's a link at the bottom of the page that goes to the original in Middle English).  Looks like jousting on the glass, so it fits.

Hi, the stem looks identical to my ebay item 290224242762 which is definately by Stuart Crystal as its boxed and has its cert!

Thankyou all for your help. I have some great leads to follow there, much appreciated. I am now convinced that it is a Stuart Crystal goblet, the stem is exactly like the one on ebay, thankyou for that!

I have never been to a jousting tournament, do they have souvenirs such as this for sale at these tournaments?

The Masonic link is interesting also, something to follow up.

I wondered if it could possibly be an award or trophy specially etched for a sporting event or competition....
