go this one today, it measures 6" and 5.5" across, not my type of glass but who made it?

Is the bottom cased in clear Ray?

yes the base is clear but still has some brown streaks in it

Hi Ray,

I think it may be Walther "Lotus" pattern. See http://www.cloudglass.com/Walvase.htm about half-way down.

that looks like it

i'm kicking myself, as there was a glass base on the carboot table, but i never thought anything of it, but it still might be there next week i hope
