Title: French? Austrian? Legras??? enamelled flowers and etch.

I got this vase at an antique mall today. it's about 4 inches tall and about four or five inches long and about 2 inches across ( all estimated) Anybody recognize it? I am thinking maybe legras? it does look like there might be some sort of signature on the base but I really can't tell what it might be and It didn't show up great in the pic. basically the entire vase is somewhat frosted except for this area on the base that looks like it's got three possible letters. Sat is kind of what it looks like. it could be an lat or something like that too.

I don't recognise the vase from the main pics - but then it's not really one of my areas of knowledge. But I might be able to help with getting a better photo of the base portion with the possible sig.

The comments below are of a type often offered by various folk in the board but with such a wide and varied membership and constant flow of messages, they are not often seen by many people. There is some thinking in commitee about whether to add extra photo hints to the Technical "Stickies" but because it's a such a wide subject it's not easy to be brief and concise!

However ...
1. Take the photo with a plain neutral background such a white or light gray (digital cameras like to focus on detail and there is detail in the table top so that's what it has focused on).

2. Check out the camera for a "close focus" or "macro" function (most digital cameras have one, usually indicated by a "flower icon") and use that for the pic.

3. Try several photos with "macro" but at different distances and try to get the sig portion central in each photo (centralising the sig in the frame will, by default, give the camera a chance to focus properly on that area)

4. If the camera has trouble focusing on what you are aiming at (because of very little detail) try including something of detail on the surface of the vase, some newsprint perhaps.

5. If there is a zoom (or "optical zoom") function on the camera, try that with and without the "macro" setting and at different distances.

6. Find a way to keep the camera absolutely still when taking close-up shots.

I will try. I just turned the sig upside down and it turned into the characteristic LEG sig.  I"ll try to get a better photo.
