Title: Strathearn Dreier Butterfly S79
Post by: tropdevin on June 19, 2008, 04:42:47 PM

I have seen one of these (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?type=2&campid=5335820906&toolid=10001&customid=&ext=280238078350&item=280238078350) before, but I think they are pretty rare. The one I saw was a similar colour - maybe the same one?

I have no idea if it's a good price. It was below my single maximum bid, so I am happy and it was higher than the seller's reserve price so they are also presumably happy.

I dithered for too long over that weight when it first came up for sale (not on eBay) and lost out, so this second chance was good for me. Assuming it gets through the postal system ok, I will be able to do some checks and comparisons that I would have made several years ago had it not been for indecision! However, I have, since that first opportuntity, bought another Strathearn butterfly (dated 73!) so I can make even more comparisons.

Kev

I think you got it for a good price. It's not really one of those you can put a value on. Its rarity and history mean that it is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I can see why you would want to have it. Had I had the brass I would also have been interested and would have paid that.

Looking forward to seeing research on it.

But Martin, surely you know I have not been into "research" on weights for some years now. I might offer an article for the PCC newsletter again one day but for now it's just "fascinating comparsions with what I already have". :)

Great pity IMHO.
