Having recently bought a 'black light' I can see now that several of my Czech crystal bead necklaces, not only glow shades of yellow and green, but also a strong tangerine, and a deep red. Some which look green in daylight, look navy blue under black light.
Grateful for any information about this, names, types, made by whom etc
Thanks and great forum.

Uranium only gives a green reaction. Other minerals used in glass fluoresce in other colours.

The orange glow is most likely caused by cadmium.

OMG Cadmium ? Isn't that the nasty stuff from atom bombs that melts your bones ? Those poor glass-workers.
Very intersting links in the replies, thank you all. Someone shows a bottom, (of a vase) which glows the exact same colour as one of my necklaces.
The others are mostly a very bright transparent tangerine colour. It is quite amazing.
We are away for one week tomorrow, but when I get back, I will attempt to photograph some of the things, to show you all.
What a fascinating subject this is, I have mispent my day reading about coloured glass instead of ironing and packing for our upcoming trip.
Also, maybe it was just me, but I had trouble logging in, had to come in via the activation email again.
Bye for now, and thanks again.

Cadmium is a toxic metal but I don't think it will melt your bones.
It is commonly used in batteries.
