Title: Skrdlovice? bowl plus Sklo Union looking ashtray
Post by: Anne E.B. on June 25, 2008, 06:37:17 PM
This heavy bowl was a great find today.  Whilst the exterior and interior walls are smooth, the inside looks 'strapped' for want of a better description   Very heavy at almost 1.7kg, with lots of age related wear on the base.  The colouring is quite delicate - amber blush and green, a little like another piece I have which is a Skrdlovice design. Any ideas what this might be please?  I immediately thought Czech when I spotted it...

I'm pretty sure this one is Sklo Union.  Its thick walled and quite big for an ashtray.

Many thanks :)

Anne
Nice bowl, says Czech to me too.
Ive looked through my 'Czech glass 1945-1980' by Arnoldsche, wonderful book,
cant see it, but it looks familiar.
I know a man who might ;)

I'm sure I've seen something very similar to this bowl before!  Its a super quality piece.

Spot on Alexander! :hiclp: The colourway is identical, so too the elongated bubbles which I mis-described as 'strapping'.  To be more accurate, it has internal horizontal bands of elongated bubbles.  It also has a flat polished base.

I do hope Marcus will look in and confirm :)

I just knew it was a quality piece.  ;D

Hi Anne,
Looks as though it is part of the range to accompany Vizner's original 6860 vase and lamp base. Given the colouring, this is early production as this subtle colouring was abandoned later.
Ashtray also looks good, and I will go through the catalogues later.
Regards,
Marcus

A big thank you Marcus as always :hiclp:
Would I be correct in thinking that this too would be by the glass-master Spinar and dating to around 1968 also?

No worries about the blue ashtray.  I know how busy you must be, and I look forward to finding out for myself when The Book is ready ;D
